Otterbein University awards the Otterbein LGBTQ+ Scholarship to 1 entering first-year student each year. The award is $1,000 and is renewable for up to 4 years. Students who apply by December 15th are sent a link to a scholarship questionnairethat allows them to be selected for consideration for endowed scholarships based on individual traits. For this scholarship, students provide a short answer to teh question “How was your experience as a LGBTQIA+ person informed your education, individual goals or aspirations?”

Jackie Anderson Scholarship Fund
Longtime Chicago civil-rights activist Jackie Anderson will be remembered in a more permanent way, after her passing Jan. 7. Her family has established a scholarship in her name at Roosevelt University. Thanks to initial donations, the $5,000 scholarship is now endowed, but donations are needed to be used toward students.
Roosevelt University held a special place in Anderson’s heart. One promise she asked Torrence ( her grandson ) to keep was to start a scholarship fund for young African-American female students to help continue their pursuit of higher education. She understood that $1,000 could be the difference between degree completion and dropping out. Therefore, a donation to the Jackie Anderson Scholarship Fund is being sought by family and friends.Contact Information:

Veronica Marcum Scholarship Fund
The Veronica Marcum Scholarship Fund was created by Candy Marcum and Carolyn Hall, long-time leaders in the LGBT equality movement, to honor Candy’s mother, Veronica Marcum.
Mrs. Marcum was a Registered Nurse (RN) who served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war, she married and dedicated her time to her family. Known as “Mickey” to her many friends, she kept her RN license current for twenty-five years, eventually working at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. She remained at Methodist Hospital until she retired in 1993. In retirement, she volunteered at MD Anderson Medical Center for another twenty years.
Mrs. Marcum passed away on January 24, 2018, two weeks before her 95th birthday.

Gayborhood Scholarship

Jonathan Lax Scholarship Fund for Gay Men
The Lax Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 by the late entrepreneur and inventor Jonathan R. Lax for the express purpose of encouraging gay men to obtain additional education, aspire to positions in which they contribute to society, be open about their sexual preference, and act as role models for other gay men with similar potential.

The Live Out Loud Annual Scholarship provides five $5,000 scholarships to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students who have shown exceptional leadership, courage, and achievement. The scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors in the tri-state area (NY, CT, NJ). Award selection is based on leadership and community service involvement. Students will be asked to submit a completed application, six short essays and two letters of recommendation. Finalists will be brought to our office for an interview. The deadline is in mid-March.

The scholarships in the Houston area are awarded by the PFLAG/HATCH Youth Scholarship Foundation (HATCH stands for Houston Area Teen Coalition of Homosexuals). PFLAG Greensboro has established the Carter Stroupe Memorial Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually in the spring. PFLAG Salisbury/Rowan will award two (2) $1000 scholarships each spring. The first scholarship is the Anne Stanback-Charlotte Kinlock Scholarship, awarded to a GLBT student. The recipient must be a student from Rowan County. Named for Anne Stanback, a Salisbury/Rowan County native and her partner of 24 years, Charlotte Kinlock. The Brill Scholarships are named for Bob and Helen Brill, who co-founded PFLAG Hartford in 1981. Awarded annually, these scholarships are a joint project of True Colors and PFLAG Hartford. Seniors attending high school or residing in San Mateo or Santa Clara counties are invited to apply for $2000 scholarships to attend two-year or four-year colleges or business/technical schools in the fall. Several scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors of any gender identity or sexual orientation, whose history, activities and personal plans demonstrate support for justice and equality for the GLBTQQ community. PFLAG Phoenix
PFLAG Phoenix awards two scholarships each spring. The Boots & Ray Reed Scholarship (named for PFLAG Phoenix chapter founders Boots and Ray Reed) is a single $1,000 scholarship. Self-identified gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender (GLBT) youth, or a straight ally youth (i.e., a heterosexual youth who demonstrates outstanding direct support to GLBT youth and/or the GLBT community) and at least 16 years old as of May 1st are eligible. The Ruth Benedict Prize
The Ruth Benedict Prize is presented each year at the American Anthropological Association’s annual meeting to acknowledge excellence in a scholarly book written from an anthropological perspective about a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered topic. The Ruth Benedict Prize is awarded in each of two separate categories: one for a single-authored monograph and another for an edited volume. Submissions may be on any topic related to lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgendered people, or other gender / sexual formations and categories from any world culture area. Topics may include the study of normativity, queer theory, and the social/historical construction of sexual and gender identities, discourses and categories. Authors may represent any scholarly discipline, but the material submitted must engage anthropological theories and methods.

Malyon-Smith Scholarship Award
The Malyon-Smith Scholarship is named for two founding past-presidents of the Division, the late Alan Malyon and the late Adrienne Smith. It is a fund that annually awards up to $1000 to selected graduate students in psychology to advance research in the psychology of sexual orientation and gender identity. The award represents one of the Division’s major efforts to mentor and support science in LGBT psychology by encouraging the work of young researchers. Faculty members are strongly encouraged to inform students of this award so that we can continue to insure the future of LGBT research in psychology. Kenneth W. Payne Student Prize Competition
The Kenneth W.
